On the southern shore of one of the most beautiful bays
on the Mediterranean, facing Ste. Maxime, stands the
town of St. Tropez. It is one of the best known places
in Southern Europe. Activity centers around the harbour,
where fishing boats and commercial vessels are docked
along with larger luxury yachts. The many restaurants,
cafes and bars either face out towards the harbour or
can be found tucked away in picturesque side streets.
In season, a cosmopolitan crowd strolls through these
streets visiting the luxury boutiques, galleries and
antique shops.
The beaches are slightly outside of
town. They are a bit of paradise with their fine sand
and charming rocky creeks. The most appealing and fashionable
are the Pampelonne beaches, which are well sheltered
from the mistral winds.
The citadel stands on a hilltop at
the east end of town and commands a fine panorama of
St. Tropez, the bay and Ste. Maxime.
